This is just a quick reminder that on April 4th from 5 – 6pm the University of Calgary Liberal Association will be hosting our AGM. The AGM will take place in MSC Desdemona. We are still looking for some new members to fill out our exec, no experience required! Trudeau Boxing Match

On March 31st, the UCLA and the Campus Conservative Club got together for beers and watched the charity boxing match between Liberal MP Justin Trudeau and Conservative Senator Patrick Brazeau. It was great to see Trudeau, who was considered to be the underdog, win the match! Thanks to our Conservative friends for being good sports and coming out for a fun night. Hopefully we can get together again next year and watch Trudeau win again

Death by Chocolate – Thanks!

On Friday, March 23rd the UCLA hosted MP Scott Brison at our annual Death by Chocolate fundraiser. The event raised over $1000 for the club, which will be used so we can continue to advertise and run high quality events, and send University of Calgary delegates to various Liberal conventions. As well, the event raised over $550 for Save a Child’s Heart, a charity which provides lifesaving heart surgeries to children in developing countries, at no cost. Thanks to all who attended the event and supported the silent auction, and a big thanks to Scott Brison for being our amazing guest speaker!

The UCLA recently hosted the Alberta Young Liberals AGM. Many of the new members of the AYL are UCLA members, so we are excited to continue to have a strong relationship with the AYL. A big congrats goes to UCLA VP Communications Amit Singh, as he assumes the role of AYL President!

Death by Chocolate is back!

The University of Calgary of Liberal Association is having our annual Death by Chocolate event with special guest speaker Scott Brison (MP Kings-Hants, Nova Scotia). This event will raise money for the UCLA so we can continue to run a wide variety of events, as well as supporting UofC young Liberals in attending various party conventions. Please come and support the UCLA! The event takes place on Friday March 23rd from 6:30 – 9pm at the Banff Trail Community Centre.

$40 – regular
$20 – student or Laurier Club member

On March 21st, the University of Calgary Liberal Association, the Conservative Party Campus Association and the Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee present a unique evening on youth engagement in politics at the University of Calgary.

Our Special Guests will be:
~ The Hon. Dr. Carolyn Bennett, Liberal MP for St. Paul’s and Critic for Aboriginal Affairs & Northern Development. She is also Chair of the National Liberal Women’s Caucus.
~ A Conservative Party MP, who will be confirmed very soon

If you are a student or youth interested in politics, come to the Escalus Room at the U of C at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, March 21 for an evening of political discussion, a question and answer session, and a glass of wine and appetizers with two successful MPs.

Those of us who attended the biennial convention in Ottawa had the pleasure of hearing George Takach speak at the Young Liberals of Canada convention about his website poli-tech.ca, and how technology can influence politics and policy. Now, George is coming to Calgary to talk about Canada’s digital future.

Join the University of Calgary Liberal Association and George Takach, lawyer of 25 years, adjunct professor of Computer Law, and Sr. Partner in Technology Law at the law firm McCarthy Tetrault for a discussion on Canada’s Digital Future.

Bring your questions and your ideas! This is a free event so all our welcome to join the discussion.

Alberta Young Liberals Annual General Meeting

On March 3rd the University of Calgary Liberal Association will be hosting the Alberta Young Liberals AGM. The AGM takes place in EDC 154, which is in the Education building.

The meeting will commence at 2:00 PM. All are welcome, however only members in good standing with the either the Liberal Party of Canada or the Alberta Liberal Party are eligible to vote and/or run for the Board of Directors or Executive Office.
